Report a Problem

The game has been successfully tested on a variety of platforms and configurations (including Macs with Intel processors running Windows OS), but we welcome the community’s comments to help us improve our game.  Many of the issues reported below can be traced back to one of three issues:

1) DirectX 9.0c is not installed

2) The video card is not compliant

3) Faulty download

FAS appreciates your support in helping us improve Immune Attack. Should you find a problem that cannot be resolved through our FAQs, please report it here. Thank you & enjoy!

Although specs are satisfied and installation succeeds, starting the application shows an initial game screen for only about a second and then the screen disappears. In other words, the game will not start. Clicking on Game-r.exe produces what appears to be a cmd screen, but again that disappears and the desktop returns.

I’ll be grateful for your advice on possible fix.

Windows only, Huh, anyone look at computers used in schools?

Guess we could buy Windows and install on our Intel iMacs, OR we could just skip this.

Don’t think by adms would be thrilled to but windows for our computers.

Sorry for your decision, but it is your project and decision.

With the world moving to the web Flash or other web-based designs make more sense.

I use Linux myself and having to dual boot back into XP just to try this one app is a real disincentive for use. Haven’t tried the game yet ( for this reason) but the overall concept I think is terrific.

None of the faqs dealt with my problems. Although I installed the game following the installation requirements and my computer meets the system requirements I can’t get the game to start, because the mouse is deactivated and the arrow keys don’t seem to work. The game walk through consists only of a series of screenshots.

When I try to start playing from the in-game menu, I hear an error sound while the loading bar fills. The game won’t start and there is some kind of C++ debug window appearing. I only see it in small flashes though, as it seems impossible to alt+tab out of the game. I just have to “focus” on the debug window via alt+tab and then click enter to get out to the desktop. Is there some kind of C++ library or something like that I need?

The game looks interesting and I would really like to try it.

Hi.
This is really the best way of learning, but…I have a problem.

Wen I get to the playing mode, the camera simply doesn’t stop spining around the nanobot/drone.
My keyboard region defenitions are set to Portuguese. ( don’t now if that is part of the problem).

And, wen I tryed to exit the game, “zonealarm” detected something accessing the net and I had a hard time to get out.
And now I’m sick of all that spin, so I won’t try to change the keyb defs today.

One last sugestion: reading lessons should have voice and dinamic image examples.

Thanks

Humberto (17:43:23) :

We are also trying to run this software in one of our student computer labs.
We get the same Direct3d error. Further investigation with dxdiag.exe shows that Direct3d is not enabled on our intel Macs.
My suggestion to those folks still getting the Direct3d error is to do a Start-Run-cmd.exe then type dxdiag.exe and under the DISPLAY tab, see if Direct3d is not greyed out.
If it is, then you probably need to update your video driver to allow hardware graphics acceleration.

Help.

Windows XP Professional SP2

The short and sweet - on the same computer, the program works when logged in as an administrator, but doesn’t work when logged into a user account.

Issue 1: Most, if not all installers will place an icon on both the administrator’s desktop and in any desktop accessed via a non-adminisrator’s user account. The Immune Attack icon only appears on the administrator’s desktop.

Issue 2: Most installers create a file folder in the Start menu’s All Programs list. The Immune Attack folder appears in the administrator’s Start menu All Programs list, but not in the Start menu of any non-administrator’s user accounts.

Issue 3: A shortcut icon can be manually created on user desktops, but the program does not run properly.

- After selecting NEW GAME > Novice the following error box appears:

Microsoft Visual C++ Debug Library

Debug Assertion Failed

Program: …\Game-r.exe
File: fprintf.c
Line 56

Expression.str !=NULL

Peter Rhone (06:36:07) :

Hey thanks for the great work, it’s more fun than my textbooks :)

It runs in linux with the latest version of Wine installed (I’m on Ubuntu 8.10), but I’d like to request that the source code be opened, mainly because I’m a capable programmer myself and have done work with OpenGL - I’d like to contribute.
But as a physicist and educator, I’d also like to see this wonderful piece of educational software used on all systems - especially because of all the inexpensive linux computers on the market that make it easier than ever for less well funded schools to take advantage of all the great educational possibilities computers can provide. The simplest way to increase availability is to open up the code and let programmers port the program to their own systems themselves.

All the best and thanks again,
-Peter Rhone, Dipl.Phys.

I have a top of the line gaming computer with geforce 8800GTX graphics card, intel core 2 cpu, 2GB RAM running winXP and this game is completely unplayable. Overall, good work!

So, not offering version for Linux (on which most, if not all of your servers working) is not rude enough? You feel that it’s necessary to add insult to injury by not even mentioning Linux anywhere on your site?

Thanks a lot!!!

With Windows predominance gradually shrinking (Vista anyone?), and Mac OS (UNIX based) and Linux (free Ubuntu OS for all) gaining much wider acceptance by the masses, I can’t think of a worst timing to offer software for only one fading out platform… Not to mention spread of Linux based OLPC project in developing countries.
Linux community can surely port this application or make it work with WINE. But no… Thanks again!

Zoran (09:30:05) :

It seems that the game installer has a bug regarding the Desktop icon creation functionality. It always sets the “Start in” shortcut’s property to the default installation folder (”%ProgramFiles%\Escape Hatch Entertainment\ImmuneAttack\”), even if the game is not installed in the default location.
This makes the game hang up after the initial load screen.

Quick-fix: Manually edit the “Start in” property to point to the real installation folder.
Hope this helps.

1 07 2008
Gordon (19:19:30) :

I had the same problem as Sacc with a largely black screen that keeps being drawn over the display when you attempt to start playing.

The problem turned out to be a bug in the installer, I’d installed in C:\Program Files\ImuneAttack instead of it’s preferred directory. The desktop icon had the correct program directory, but kept its preference for the startup directory. Editing the properties of the desktop icon to make the startup directory the actual install directory fixed the problem.

Josh (02:58:53) :

I am just pointing out my experience to help with potential debugging that might be needed with this game. I too encountered this spinning problem. Some specs that might aid in diagnosing this are my graphics card: Geforce 8800GT, Operating system: Vista Business 32bit, and DirectX: 9.0c. I hope to hear of a fix so I can try this out proper.

6 07 2008
Dan Howell (20:37:38) :

Problem: Error message at loading screen.

Solution: If you changed the install directory while installing Immune Attack, you need to change the operating directory for the shortcut. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Go to your desktop
2. Right-Click on the Immune Attack icon
3. From the drop-down menu, select “properties”
4. In the field labeled “Start in”, enter the location where you installed the game. Make sure to insert quotes (”) before and after the location, for example: “C:\ImmuneAttack\”
5. Click OK
6. Double click on the Immune Attack icon and enjoy!

Alternatively, use Windows Explorer to browse to the Immune Attack directory, then double-click “Game-r.exe”

Shana (09:34:04) :

Hi,

I was able to successfully download and install the game and when I run the game, I am able to get through the initial screens without a problem. However, once I select “start new game” from the game menu, I can’t get past the screen with the loading bar. The game just freezes up. Like some other people, I am getting an error sound and seeing some kind of C++ window. However, the window is buried underneath the black screen and I can only see it if I can focus the cursor on it. Even then I can only see it in small flashes. Once this happens, I have a very difficult time getting out of the game and have had to simply restart the computer a few times. I appreciate any suggestions you can offer. I am running XP and do meet all system requirements.

Thanks,

Melanie (13:17:19) :

Dear Immune Attack Players,

We have been looking over the many types of problems playing Immune Attack. Here is some information.

1. Nanobot spinning out of control: Your processor could be TOO FAST. We need a mechanism for making a processor act slower. Does anyone know how to do that?

2. Macintosh: There are only 2 ways to play Immune Attack on a Macintosh computer, and both ways require you to run Windows on your Mac. The Macintosh computer must be a newer, Intel based Macintosh. (MacBook, not iBook).
First way: Use Bootcamp to divide your hard drive and purchase WindowsXP or WindowsVista.
Second way: Fusion appears to be the ONLY PC emulator program that will run Immune Attack. It costs about $80. Install the Fusion program on your Macintosh like any other Mac program (do not divide your hard drive.) After installing Fusion, then open Fusion and install Windows, which you’ll have to buy, too.

We apologize to the Mac users out there. There are more PCs, even in grade school and high schools, believe it or not. We want our game to accessible to as many people as possible. We would make two versions, if we had twice the funding.

Thank you all for your patience. Please keep us up to date with your experiences playing the game. We are working on the updated version, so send in your suggestions!

Sincerely,

Melanie Stegman,
Team Immune Attack

After looking at everyone’s posts, I decided to add something no one seems to have mentioned yet… I, too, meet or exceed the requirements. I have changed the desktop icon’s “Start In” location to match the target installation folder. And I am also experiencing the Microsoft Visual C++ debug menu popping up behind the start screen after the loading bar has reached 100% and the game has frozen. What I want to know is why under the Windows Task Manager my computer’s CPU usage jumps from it’s normal operating range of a 2% load to a full 100% while the game is attepting to run? When I can finally get the stalled game closed, the usage immediately drops back down to it’s regular 2%. Any suggestions? Currently running:
