Dear Karen,

I have not heard of the text being garbled. That is not a download problem. Perhaps it is because we tested the game on Service Pack 2 Windows? I suggest trying that and I will ask around for advice from our programming experts. I'll post and email you directly as soon as I learn something.

We are developing Immune Attack 2.0, so all your input, comments from your students, what the learn, what you would like to add... all these comments are welcome!

I downloaded program. It starts ok, but when you get to the actual game I cannot read any of the text and therefore cannot play the game.
Where there should be text I have machine like symbols.

I am running windows XP SP3 and meet or exceed all other requirements.

I have downloaded program several extra times to make sure I did not receive corrupted file first time around.

Really wanted to use with my gifted students for new unit Disease Detectives, but will not be able to get approval until I can download and try out.

Can you help?

I have the same problem as reported by "Jeff" above:

After successfully installing Immune Attack on a Dual Core Intel Mac, with an NVIDIA GeForece 7300GT video card, and using Parallels running XP (SP2), the following error message was displayed when trying to run IA. Can it be solved?

Direct3d: device creation failed! HWERR = Invalid Call, SERR = Not Available

PS.
Several hours after my previous message about the server not allowing download the server is doing better. 12 minutes left right now, but it seems to be uploading fine. Having an alternate mirror would probably be helpful.
The registration page though is still not working:

The error with the setup file is being caused by your server, not at everyone else's end. The Immuneattachsetup.exe file is reported as 519MB by your server. What's downloaded is 363KB (note the unit difference) in 3 seconds. Your server is giving up and sending a completed signal. I'm having no trouble downloading from any other server, and I'm guessing that all the other people reporting a problem aren't having any trouble with other sites either. Multiple attempts doesn't change anything on the evening of 1/10, but I imagine that a downloader might get lucky every once in awhile and get the file. You need a different server.

Thanks,
Mike Holloway

After successfully installing Immune Attack on an XP Pro, the following error message is displayed when trying to run IA.
Direct3d: device creation failed! HWERR = Invalid Call, SERR = Not Available

When running dxdiag.exe, everything is enabled and the tests all pass.

Suggestions?

It installs and runs fine in vista 32 home premium, but it does not save your progress. Incase the developers are curious about hardware compatibility I included a few specs below.

Asus M50-SA
Core 2 T9300
Ati Mobility Radeon HD 3650

Hello Everyone,

In response to the people writing in with the "Initialization errors," our only advice is to try to download the game again. Your first download may have been corrupted during the download.

Good luck. Keep in touch!

We installed the game on our school laptops but it will only run if someone is logged in as an administrator. There is no way our tech staff will allow students such access. One of our tech staff said that the problem will be fixed in a new release. Can you let me know when you plan to release an update with this fix?

After looking at everyone's posts, I decided to add something no one seems to have mentioned yet... I, too, meet or exceed the requirements. I have changed the desktop icon's "Start In" location to match the target installation folder. And I am also experiencing the Microsoft Visual C++ debug menu popping up behind the start screen after the loading bar has reached 100% and the game has frozen. What I want to know is why under the Windows Task Manager my computer's CPU usage jumps from it's normal operating range of a 2% load to a full 100% while the game is attepting to run? When I can finally get the stalled game closed, the usage immediately drops back down to it's regular 2%. Any suggestions? Currently running:

XP SP3
Pentium IV 3GHz
512 MB DDR2 Ram
Radeon X300 SE 128 MB PCI video
Soundblaster Live! 24-bit HD Advanced 7.1 audio
DirectX 9c

Dear Immune Attack Players,

We have been looking over the many types of problems playing Immune Attack. Here is some information.

1. Nanobot spinning out of control: Your processor could be TOO FAST. We need a mechanism for making a processor act slower. Does anyone know how to do that?

2. Macintosh: There are only 2 ways to play Immune Attack on a Macintosh computer, and both ways require you to run Windows on your Mac. The Macintosh computer must be a newer, Intel based Macintosh. (MacBook, not iBook).
First way: Use Bootcamp to divide your hard drive and purchase WindowsXP or WindowsVista.
Second way: Fusion appears to be the ONLY PC emulator program that will run Immune Attack. It costs about $80. Install the Fusion program on your Macintosh like any other Mac program (do not divide your hard drive.) After installing Fusion, then open Fusion and install Windows, which you'll have to buy, too.

We apologize to the Mac users out there. There are more PCs, even in grade school and high schools, believe it or not. We want our game to accessible to as many people as possible. We would make two versions, if we had twice the funding.

Thank you all for your patience. Please keep us up to date with your experiences playing the game. We are working on the updated version, so send in your suggestions!

Sincerely,

Melanie Stegman,
Team Immune Attack

We apologize to the Mac users out there. There are more PCs, even in grade school and high schools, believe it or not. We want our game to accessible to as many people as possible. We would make two versions, if we had twice the funding.

Thank you all for your patience. Please keep us up to date with your experiences playing the game. We are working on the updated version, so send in your suggestions!

Sincerely,

Melanie Stegman,

Paralleles Desktop users for Intel Macs - you must edit the Virtual Machine (after stopping windows) and enable DirectX shaders. There are still some issue, though.

Not working on my Toshiba Vista machine.

Downloading half gig took a long time on my mid-speed connection. Extraction and loading involved a bunch of prompts, I think one indicated an error but hitting continue allowed it to proceed. There was an intro of a couple minutes I viewed and then when it offered to start a game I hit novice and it crashed with Visual C++ debug message saying "debug assertion failed" expression: str!=NULL, press retry to debug; retry just generates a Windows message that game-r.exe has stopped working.

Sorry,

I found the answer in the FAQ.

5. How do I save the game?

Currently the game cannot be saved, however a user can jump to any level/key concept or in-game cinematic by going to the main menu > instructor menu > and entering the password: abc

The app won't allow an install location on anything but C: All my machines don't have enough space left on C: to install, but there is enough space on other drives.

I was not able to install the game.

If you correct this issue, please let me know.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi,

I tried posting this error report a few weeks ago, but I guess it failed.

When I try to run IA I receive a message "Unable to Create a Stenciling Render target. OK." After that, the program does not launch.

This is on XP professional, service Pack 2 and the latest version of Direct X.

Help appreciated.

I also get a message that says "unable to create stenciling render target."
I attempted to open the file from Windows Explorer (the executable file), as well as trying Repair, and removal/reinstallation in the setup files. I checked/changed the Start In location, and all of this, to no avail!
Please help! Thanks.

Hi,

I was able to successfully download and install the game and when I run the game, I am able to get through the initial screens without a problem. However, once I select "start new game" from the game menu, I can't get past the screen with the loading bar. The game just freezes up. Like some other people, I am getting an error sound and seeing some kind of C++ window. However, the window is buried underneath the black screen and I can only see it if I can focus the cursor on it. Even then I can only see it in small flashes. Once this happens, I have a very difficult time getting out of the game and have had to simply restart the computer a few times. I appreciate any suggestions you can offer. I am running XP and do meet all system requirements.

Thanks,

Shana

Problem: Error message at loading screen.

Solution: If you changed the install directory while installing Immune Attack, you need to change the operating directory for the shortcut. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Go to your desktop
2. Right-Click on the Immune Attack icon
3. From the drop-down menu, select "properties"
4. In the field labeled "Start in", enter the location where you installed the game. Make sure to insert quotes (") before and after the location, for example: "C:\ImmuneAttack\"
5. Click OK
6. Double click on the Immune Attack icon and enjoy!

Alternatively, use Windows Explorer to browse to the Immune Attack directory, then double-click "Game-r.exe"

I am just pointing out my experience to help with potential debugging that might be needed with this game. I too encountered this spinning problem. Some specs that might aid in diagnosing this are my graphics card: Geforce 8800GT, Operating system: Vista Business 32bit, and DirectX: 9.0c. I hope to hear of a fix so I can try this out proper.

I had the same problem as Sacc with a largely black screen that keeps being drawn over the display when you attempt to start playing.

The problem turned out to be a bug in the installer, I'd installed in C:\Program Files\ImuneAttack instead of it's preferred directory. The desktop icon had the correct program directory, but kept its preference for the startup directory. Editing the properties of the desktop icon to make the startup directory the actual install directory fixed the problem.
